LIZA MINELLI

Born in Hollywood in March, 1946, to Judy Garland and director Vincente Minelli. Her first performance came at age 3, when she appeared in the final scene of the musical In the Good Old Summertime, starring her mother and Van Johnson. She attended the Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music and Performing Arts in New York city and the Chadwick School. In the summer of 1961 she apprenticed at the Cape Cod Melody Tent and was in the chorus of Flower Drum Song. At 17 she appeared in Best Foot Forward, an Off-Broadway musical, and received a Theater World Award. The following year she performed with her mother at the London Palladium. For her stage role in Flora the Red Menace she became, at 19, the youngest woman ever to win a Tony Award as leading actress. She also made her nightclub debut that year at the Shoreham Hotel in D.C. Other nightclub appearances followed, in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New York. She has recorded numerous albums, most notably Liza With A Z . Her first professonal film role came in The Sterile Cuckoo , for which she received an Oscar nomination. Her best-known film role, as Sally Bowles in Cabaret (1972) earned her both an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award, making her the only Oscar-winning child of Oscar-winning parents. In the following years she has appeared regularly on television, including her own specials, and in concerts around the U. S. and in Europe.

Title:    CABARET

           "Money, Money, Money."

Liza Minelli sparkles as Sally Bowles, an American entertainer working at a very naughty night club in decadent Berlin between the wars. Joel Gray is convincing as the creepy master of ceremonies. The comedy and lively music are counterpoint to the ominous reality of where Germany is headed. Michael York and others ably support Minelli's Oscar-winning performance. Based on a Fred Ebb-John Kander Broadway musical, this film was awarded eight Oscars, including Director, Cinematography and Score Adaptation.

1972, Directed by Bob Fosse
