Classic Movie Reviews

About Us

After a conversation about movies with one of my four adult children, I wrote up a list of what I consider “must-see” movies, primarily films from the 1940s and up to a few in the 1980s or later. For me, these decades were something of a golden age for Hollywood filmmaking, an era when the industry was largely driven by creative people, before the industry became dominated by corporate accountants. With a few notable exceptions, I don’t find the offerings of Hollywood over the last 20 years or so to be watchable. That’s just one man’s opinion, of course, but my sons wanted me to expand on the original list and do short reviews for posting on the Internet. For many of the movies I’ve also included some biographical or historical sidebar information relevant to the film being reviewed.

I’m sure there are some other films that someone could argue persuasively are of equally “must-see” quality. For whatever it’s worth, some of my favorites are identified and described on this and the following pages. Some additional films will be added in the future.
