HENRY JAYNES FONDA
(May 1905 -- Aug 1982)

For six decades Fonda was a presence on Broadway stages and in Hollywood, appearing in 16 Broadway productions and 106 movies and television programs. During his long career he played every kind of role from light comedy (Yours, Mine & Ours, with Lucille Ball) to heavy drama, such as The Ox-Bow Incident and Once Upon a Time in the West. His last film, On Golden Pond, was released very near the end of his life. His personal favorite was Mister Roberts, in which he starred both on Broadway and in the movie adaptation. His awards include the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute (1978). In 1999 the AFI ranked him the Sixth Greatest Male Star of All Time. His talented family includes daughter Jane, son Peter, granddaughter Bridget and grandson Troy Garrity.

TITLE:   TWELVE ANGRY MEN

"You didn't really mean you would kill me, did you?"

A New York jury has to decide whether a tenement teenager murdered his father. All are ready to convict - except Henry Fonda. He wants to discuss some details of the case and some possible mistakes by the court-appointed defense lawyer. Verbal combat and intense emotions make for taut drama as it becomes obvious some of the jurors are being heavily influenced by their own life experiences that have nothing to do with the facts of the case at hand. The first-rate cast includes some real heavyweights, such as E. G. Marshall, Lee J. Cobb, Jack Warden, Jack Klugman and the senior Ed Begley.

1957, Directed by Sidney Lumet
